The Guys of Primary Interviews: Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard!

Summer is here for most of us and The Guys of Primary are excited to bring you some exclusive interviews for you to get to know us a little better.

Hello everyone, it's Bryce here from The Teaching Texan. Today I have the opportunity to interview Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard! Greg is a kindergarten teacher in Tennessee. Grab your favorite summer snack and drink and let's get rolling...

1. Why did you decide to become a teacher? I have always wanted to be a teacher.  I’ve never wanted to do anything else.  In college I took some journalism classes trying to resist teaching but they didn’t satisfy me.  Teaching is who I am!   And I’ve always wanted to change the world, and I firmly believe the best way to do that is one child and one classroom at a time!

2. What do you do in your spare time to relax? Hobbies? Volunteer work?
I enjoy movies and tv with the mister and the doodles!   I like to create and be outdoors!

3. Would you recommend teaching as a career to your students?
YES!!!!!!  Teaching is the most amazing job ever!   It truly is the best job ever!   Is it hard?  YES!  Is it frustrating at times?  YES!   But at the end of every day, you know you’ve made a difference!!!

4. What does you like most about teaching? Least? I love seeing my students have lightbulb moments!   There is nothing like seeing a child’s face when they “get” a new skill or concept!   It’s all about the kids so the kids are always the best part of teaching!   What I like least is the “stuff” that gets in the way.  The politics and mandates and paperwork that take time from actually teaching and helping kids!

5. If you weren’t a teacher, what job would you like to have? Why?
Journalist!   I love telling stories!

6. What is the best part about being a male in a field of predominantly females?
I’m a rockstar and get to be part of an elite group!   Our students need more male role models in their lives and I am honored to be able to fill that void!

7. What is your classroom or teaching philosophy?
In everything we do in our classroom, we must put our students at the center of it all!

TEACH THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR KIDS!

Thanks Greg for taking the time to answer these questions! Be sure to follow Greg and check out his amazing blog and teacher resources in his TPT store!
