Teacher Resolutions With the Guys of Primary [Part 3]

Hey y'all!  It's Bryce from [The Teaching Texan]!

We all have some sort of resolution for the new year, right?!  I look at everything more as a goal - none of that "new year, new me" stuff here!

1.  My first goal is to take more of what happens in my classroom back into my own hands.  This year I transitioned to an independent school and have tried to incorporate as many of the standing traditions, practices, etc. that already existed.  But you know what?  I'm my own person, and I am a professional.  When I was in a public school setting I had no issues "bending" the rules to do what was best for my kids.  There are times when you just have to take matters into your own hands and change things up in your classroom.  I definitely plan on making things more tailored to my kiddos and myself rather than sticking to traditions for the rest of the school year.  First on the agenda is restructuring my guided reading block!

2.  This year I took a jump into the deep end with Project-Based Learning (PBL).  Guess what?!  I LOVE it and so do my kids!!  I wish that we could do PBL all day, every day.  I just love how easy it is to link subject areas and the kiddos just get so into it.  I've already planned a few PD opportunities this coming year to expand my knowledge of PBL and implement more of it in my classroom.  We're in the midst of our first PBL unit about the solar system, but next year I hope to incorporate more!

3.   While my last goal doesn't focus on work INSIDE the classroom, it does relate to my performance in the classroom.  The mister and I used to be so good at waking up before work and getting a workout in.  Over the past year we've definitely slacked, but have totally picked back up since January 1st. I just think that my stamina and energy in the classroom are boosted when we follow a plan that focuses on US as individuals.  How can you help others when you don't take time for yourself?!

And that's it!  Those are my three areas of focus thus far this year.  So far, so good!

What are your teacher resolutions?
